Saturday is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. It is a day that people can properly dispose of unwanted, unused or expired over-the-counter of prescription medications.

Longmont offers several locations for people to drop off medications, including inside the lobby of the Longmont Police Department.

In 2023, the Longmont Police Department collected 530 pounds of unwanted/unused medications. On average, the department collects 45 pounds each month.

Medications can be dropped off in their original containers or consolidated into zip-lock bags to help save space within the collection bins.

The state of Colorado suggests striking out personal information on prescription containers before dropping them off in the bins.
