Lila Repsher is a sophomore at Niwot High School and is part of the student council. Repsher is always looking for ways to become involved in her community and heard about the Make-A-Wish Youth Leadership Council through her student council advisor. The opportunity was too hard to pass up and already she is changing lives within her community.

Repsher is one of 45 students from across the state who work together to fundraise and raise awareness for Make-A-Wish through the leadership council.

“It is just a great opportunity to get to know the Make-A-Wish mission more,” Repsher said.

Repsher is an advocate for Make-A-Wish after seeing people in her own life go through the process and be granted wishes, she said.

“To be part of the group that is making those wishes happen is really cool,” Repsher said. “I really love seeing the impact it has on the kids in the community.”

Through the leadership council, Repsher and her colleagues work on different projects. They have learned how to raise awareness for the organization, collect donations and fundraising and help other schools create Make-A-Wish events.

In January, Niwot and Mead high schools hosted Wish Weeks in which the students raised money to grant the wish of a local child.  Repsher was integral in creating a fun-packed week as part of the Niwot Student Council and the Make-A-Wish Youth Leadership Council.

The event hosted Charlie, a Niwot resident, who suffers from a respiratory disorder. Charlie’s wish is to meet the NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.

During Wish Week,  Repsher encouraged students to get involved with the week’s activities and to bring in more donations to grant Charlie’s wish. Together the school raised $16,000 for Make-A-Wish.

In addition to the student council and the leadership council,  Repsher is the president of Niwot’s Model United Nations team and an active member of a local club swim team.

She doesn’t yet know what she wants to do after high school but knows that her future will involve helping others.

“I like feeling like I have the ability to make a difference,” Repsher said.
