Downtown Longmont is kicking off the holiday season with the annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony. The festivities will start at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, November 24th at the 6th Avenue Plaza just west of the intersection at 6th Ave. and Main St.

This year’s celebration will feature a high-energy, family-friendly holiday dance-battle by Block 1750, pitting Team Santa vs. Team Grinch. The St. Vrain Singers will host the pre-show entertainment with some more traditional holiday caroling, and of course Santa will be on-site to provide holiday cheer and photo opportunities. The event will also highlight the need for unity and community during the holiday season and beyond. Several local cultural groups will help spread the holiday spirit and light up the tree. There will be hot beverages and treats for everyone, as well as giveaway bags courtesy of High Plains Bank for the first 200 people to arrive.

The fun continues the next day, Small Business Saturday, November 25th. There are a variety of small businesses in the downtown district, and there will be even more reason to shop LoCo downtown that day – Ice carving in St. Stephens’ Plaza, roaming holiday characters giving away free t-shirts to unsuspecting holiday shoppers, and patrons can enter to win a $100 downtown gift card at participating downtown businesses.

The whole weekend of November 24th – 27th will be the first-ever Downtown Longmont Shop Mob, which kicks off the Shop LoCo campaign and is the first in a series of four Shop Mobs throughout Longmont. A Shop Mob is a community shopping event. “Mobbers” come together and swarm local businesses to do their holiday shopping, have some fun, and send a message loud and clear that we should keep our money local by shopping LoCo. With each purchase, shoppers are entered to win a prize package. There will be a new prize package each Shop Mob weekend.
