A prescribed burn is occuring Tuesday in the area of the Ute Creek Golf Course water delivery system in northeast Longmont.

The city of Longmont is conducting a prescribed burn Tuesday near East 17th Avenue and Pace Street.

The burn area is the Ute Creek Golf Course water delivery system in northeast Longmont, the city said in an alert.

The prescribed burn will occur between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and will be carefully monitored by the Longmont Fire Department, officials said.

All access to the burn areas, including trails, will be closed between those hours.

“Residents may see fire or smoke in the area, but please do not call 911 as prescribed burns are not an emergency,” the alert read. “Please do not enter the areas during the burns for any reason.”

Prescribed burns are conducted to reduce wildfire risk, improve the movement of water, reduce mosquito breeding grounds and promote plant health and diversity, according to the city’s website.
