31-Year-Old Arrested For Statutory Rape of Related 15-Year-Old Victim in Weld County

On August 15, the Weld County Sheriff's Office arrested 31-year-old Emilson Lopez-Mejia for statutory rape with no force, resisting arrest, and obstructing a peace officer.

On August 15, the Weld County Sheriff's Office arrested 31-year-old Emilson Lopez-Mejia for statutory rape with no force, resisting arrest, and obstructing a peace officer. Deputies were dispatched around 4:40 a.m. on Friday for a sexual assault that was in progress at a residence near Highway 34 and Weld County Road 47.5. Lopez-Mejia fled the scene before the deputies arrived. The 15-year-old victim is related to the suspect. 

 

According to the WCSO press release, patrol and investigations worked the rest of the morning into the afternoon to locate Lopez-Mejia. Multiple units worked to locate the suspect and upon finding him, Lopez-Mejia attempted to run and evade arrest. The foot pursuit ended with the deployment of a K-9 unit and the suspect being taken into custody. Lopez-Mejia was taken to the hospital before being booked into the Weld County Jail Friday evening at 9:51 p.m.  


Lopez-Mejia is scheduled to appear virtually at the Weld County Courthouse Wednesday morning at 8:30 a.m. He is facing a felony charge of Statutory Rape (15-17), no force, with a 10 year age difference. The suspect is also facing two misdemeanor charges for resisting arrest and obstructing a peace officer.
