A music teacher at the Dawson School in unincorporated Boulder County is facing sexual assault charges related to incidents involving four students at the school.

Da’ Jon Tyrik James, 27, was arrested Thursday on two counts of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, a felony, and unlawful sexual contact, a misdemeanor, according to a Boulder County Sheriff’s news release.

On Feb. 5, 2021, Boulder County Sheriff’s deputies were contacted by Boulder County Child Protective Services regarding a possible sexual assault on a student by a teacher, the news release states.

During the investigation, detectives met with four female students  - two 17, 18 and 19 - and their parents, who reported their music teacher, Da’ Jon James, had touched them sexually. It was reported that this began in January 2021 and continued until Feb. 4, the news release states.

The four female students disclosed they were subjected to inappropriate language, sexually explicit imagery, prolonged hugging, fondling, inappropriate complementing, and inappropriate kissing on their foreheads. All the alleged incidents occurred on school property during school hours, the news release states.

James is currently being held at the Boulder County Jail, according to the news release.

Deputies are asking that if anyone has information about the case, to call Detective Compton at 303-441-1760.
