On Sunday morning, OnStar assisted the Colorado State Patrol by disabling a stolen car. The suspect — later identified as Anthony McGregor — was discovered in the area of Weld County Road 26 near Weld County Road 1 — just south of Union Reservoir. McGregor was considered to be armed.

After the stolen vehicle was disabled, McGregor got out of the car and began interacting with officers from the Colorado State Patrol. At some point, he gained control of an unmarked Colorado State Patrol cruiser, according to a news release from the Colorado State Patrol Office.

Officers pursued McGregor attempting to use tactical interventions that partially disabled the police cruiser. McGregor led the pursuit to the Murphy’s Express at the corner of Hwy 287 and CO 66. After arriving, McGregor stole a Chevy Cruze and traveled further into Longmont. Officers lost sight of him near Second Avenue and Main Street, according to the news release.

Boulder Dispatch received a call a short time later that reported that McGregor had stolen a fourth vehicle — a Dodge Ram 1500 — from another Longmont location. Police searched for McGregor but could not find him until he was spotted on Highway 7 near Lyons, according to the news release.

After a continued search which included the Colorado State Patrol, Longmont Police Department and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, McGregor was arrested by the Longmont Police Department.

McGregor will be charged with multiple counts of motor vehicle theft, among other charges. The investigation will be led by the Colorado State Patrol Office.
