Update: Longmont police arrest suspect in Friday morning stabbing in Roosevelt Park

A 41-year-old man was stabbed during a confrontation with another man, Jeff Satur, deputy chief of Longmont Police Services, stated in an emailed. The victim was transported to a Longmont hospital and is expected to survive.

Longmont police on Friday afternoon announced that the suspect in a stabbing earlier in the day in Roosevelt Park was arrested after he was spotted near a bus stop in the 800 block of Coffman Street.

John Mark McKinley, 58, was apprehended after he was seen by Regional Transportation District police, according to an email update from the Longmont Police Department. McKinley, transient, was arrested for first-degree assault, attempted second-degree murder, violation of a protection order and felony menacing, according to the email from Jeff Satur, deputy chief of Longmont Police Services. He was taken to the Boulder County Jail.   

Police also recovered the weapon they believe was used in the attack, according to Satur.      

Police earlier in the day announced they were seeking information about the stabbing that happened about 8:30 a.m. Friday in Roosevelt Park. A 41-year-old man was stabbed during a confrontation with another man, Satur stated in an emailed.
