Each year the Longmont Police Department allows officers to choose which beat they want to be part of. Senior officers tend to choose the same beat, however, some officers switch for a new challenge, said Police Chief Jeff Satur.
In January, Longmont Police Officers choose their new beats. In March, the city’s beat map was updated on the website.
“This beat map is a great guide to officers working in your neighborhood as well as School Resource Officers (SRO) within the City of Longmont,” the police department stated in a Facebook post.
According to Satur, getting to know your beat officers is important as they are your “first point of contact for ongoing problems in your neighborhood or beat.”
In an emergency, you should call 911 instead of your beat officer. However, for questions or issues in your neighborhood contacting your beat officer is best, Satur said. He suggests contacting the sergeant too, as the officer could have a day off or be on vacation.
“Our officers enjoy meeting the people in their beats. Don’t be afraid to contact them when you have issues,” Satur said.
