Skateboarder dies after being hit by a car

A skateboarder was hit by a car early Wednesday morning which resulted in his death.

A 21-year-old man was driving westbound on Third Avenue between Alpine Street and Lashley Street around 1:27 a.m. on Wednesday.

His car struck a 22-year-old man who was skateboarding in the left westbound lane, according to Robin Ericson, spokesperson for the Longmont Police Department.

Police determined the skateboarder was not in a designated intersection or crosswalk and it is unknown which direction he was traveling at the time the incident occurred. 

Police are still investigating the situation including the speed the vehicle was going and if either party was impaired by drugs and alcohol at the time of the incident.
