Wannapreneur Apple Blonde Ale
Longmont Startup Week Collaborative Brew
ABV: 5% IBU: 30 Rating: 3/5
Wannapreneur, a collaborative beer between ten Longmont breweries (300 Suns, Bootstrap, Großen Bart, Left Hand, Open Door, Oskar Blues, Pumphouse, Shoes and Brews, Skeye, and Wibby) along with St. Vrain Cidery. Brewed out of 300 Suns, this collaboration effort was crafted to kick off Longmont Startup Week and is only available from July 24th to the 28th.
I’ve been excited to try Wannapreneur since I learned of the massive collaboration between the majority of Longmont's breweries plus St. Vrain Cidery. The number of craft breweries in Longmont has grown exponentially over the past couple of years, and even though all of these businesses are competing for shelf and tap space along with taproom visits, there is still a strong sense of community among the brewers. I think the existence of Wannapreneur, and previous collaborative projects, highlights what is great and unique about Longmont’s craft brewery scene.
Wannapreneur is classified as an apple blonde ale. The flavor is light and crisp with strong notes of apple, lesser notes of citrus and spice, and a light malty, biscuity note to the finish. When I tasted Wannapreneur, I found it to drink more like a kölsch than a blonde ale— blonde ales which are traditionally Belgian and have stronger floral notes then I found in Wannapreneur. Not being a huge fan of kölschs or lighter beers in general, after trying it I wasn’t overly impressed by the flavor— it felt too one dimensional for my taste. I couldn't decide if it was a cider trying to be a beer or a beer trying to be a cider, and I think that there could have been a better bridge between the cider aspects and the beer aspects to make it a more cohesive creation.
Aside from personal beer preferences, I found Wannapreneur to be pleasantly drinkable and I would highly recommend it to cider lovers looking for a craft beer they might enjoy. However, Wannapreneur is a limited release beer and after this week will no longer be available, so I would advise people to head over to their nearest brewery for a pint.
Wannapreneur can be found at 300 Suns, Bootstrap, Großen Bart, Left Hand, Open Door, Oskar Blues, Pumphouse, Shoes and Brews, Skeye, and Wibby taprooms.
