Downtown Longmont's Lost Marbles Toy Store, located at 435 Main Street, has closed.

Darren Moon, co-owner of Lost Marbles, wrote, in an email to the Longmont Observer, that "costs of operations pitted against inconsistent sales and lack of accessible capital to continue growth," led to the closure of the store.

The store was open from August 2016 to July 2018.

"Lost Marbles Toy Store brought energy and family-friendly products into the Downtown Neighborhood. It is always a loss when a small business closes in our community," wrote Kimberlee McKee, executive director of Longmont Downtown Development Authority, in an email to the Longmont Observer.

"Local, family-owned businesses define the values in which our community was founded, but today are some of the toughest jobs around. We often hear people lament the fact that a local business closed before they had a chance to shop there. That is why it is so important to make supporting our local businesses a regular habit."

When asked what he will do next, Moon responded that he was currently "knocking some ideas around with a capital venturist entrepreneur."

"I met and made friends with some absolutely amazing people and am looking forward to growing deeper roots in the growing, small city. I love it here!"
