Shred Your Private Documents for Free

Take boxed or bagged papers to be shredded to the Waste Diversion Center at 140 Martin Street between 9 am and 2 pm on Saturday, August 12. This is for residential documents only; no business documents accepted. Please also take ID and a copy of your most recent Longmont utility bill. End of Summer Dog Swims 

After the activity pools are closed to the general human public, the pool chemicals are neutralized making the water safe for dogs. Dog swims are from 9 am to noon and 4 to 7 pm on Tuesday, August 15, at Roosevelt Activity Pool, 903 8th Avenue, and from 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday, August 16, at Kanemoto Activity Pool, 1151 S. Pratt Parkway. All friendly dogs are welcome. Balls and bags are provided, and you can visit the multiple dog-friendly vendors in attendance. No people swimming and thank you for picking up after your pooch! Fee: $3 per dog; recreation passes are not valid. 303-651-8406 for more information.

Aspire Postsecondary Planning Program

Children, Youth and Families will offer an eight-week program to support youth applying to colleges and technical schools, for scholarships and for jobs. Topics include resume building, interviewing and federal student aid, as well as college visits. The Aspire Program is from 4 to 6 pm beginning Thursday, August, 17, at the Youth Center, 1050 Lashley Street. Call 303-774-3755 or email [email protected] for more information or to register.

Recreation Facility Closures

The City’s recreation facilities close every year in late summer for maintenance on systems and equipment. Centennial Pool will be closed August 19 - 27, and the Longmont Recreation Center will be closed August 27 - September 3. Also, from August 19 through September 4 the Union Reservoir beach will be open only on weekends and Labor Day. For more information, visit LongmontColorado.gov/rec.

Same Service, New Names for RTD Routes

Effective August 27, four popular RTD route names will change. The L route will become LD1, LX will become LD2, LNX will become LX1, and LSX will become LX2. The service on these routes will remain the same. For more information visit rtd-denver.com or call 303-299-6000.

Volunteer to Teach English

Intercambio Uniting Communities is looking for volunteers to teach English to adult learners one-on-one and in group settings in and around Longmont. NO teaching or Spanish language experience are necessary, and the expected commitment is approximately four hours per week. Attend a volunteer information session from 6 to 7 pm on Wednesday, September 13, at 1715 Iron Horse Drive to learn about Intercambio and this rewarding opportunity.
