The Greeley Police Department and the Colorado Bureau of Investigations (CBI) are hosting a Missing Persons Open House at the GPD headquarters (2875 W. 10th Street) on July 23 from 1 p.m. to 7p.m. The purpose of the open house is to obtain more information from family members of missing persons to help solve open cases. As of the latest available numbers from August 2024, there are 1,200 missing persons in the state of Colorado.

Family members of missing persons anywhere in the United States are welcome to attend the event. Attendees are encouraged to bring the most recent available photo of the missing family member as well as any medical or dental records. The Colorado Bureau of Investigations (CBI) will be on hand to collect DNA with a cheek swab for biological family members.

“The primary purpose of the event is to gather additional information on these cases that can be used to rule other cases in or out,” said Audrey Simkins, Investigative Analyst for CBI’s Cold Case Unit in Denver. “The collection of a family reference sample can be used for comparison purposes to determine if the unidentified remains case is in fact the remains of a missing person. The same can be true for dental records and the additional medical records can also assist with this process. Sometimes comparing cases via DNA can be a bit more time consuming and dental records can be a bit faster.”

Those who have a missing family member who has not yet been reported as missing are encouraged to make the report before attending the open house. Anyone with additional questions about the event is encouraged to contact Simkins at [email protected].
