City won't enforce sidewalk shoveling mandate until Monday

Code Enforcement will be making an exception and will not issue citations for failure to remove snow from sidewalks until Monday, March 22, to allow residents more time to shovel their sidewalks.

Plowing operations on residential streets have created some extra work for residents due to the unavoidable snow windrows created by the plows.

Longmont City Code states that residents must clear sidewalks in front of their homes or businesses within 24 hours after a snowfall. 

However, Code Enforcement will be making an exception and will not issue citations for failure to remove snow from sidewalks until Monday, March 22, to allow residents more time to shovel their sidewalks. 

Shoveling assistance

The Cultivate SnowBusters Program connects members of the community with seniors who face challenges clearing snow from sidewalks around their homes. After a storm hits, their volunteers visit seniors’ homes to shovel snow, provide friendly interactions, and promote safety and peace of mind. Call Cultivate at 303-443-1933 for more information.

Tree limbs

  • Residents are responsible for trees and limbs on private property and should contact an independent tree contractor if assistance is needed. A list of contractors licensed in Longmont can be found on the city’s website.

  • Residents should do their best to clear debris from their sidewalks.

  • Residents can take advantage of the Spring Branch Collection in early April to dispose of fallen branches. This annual service offers curbside collection of tree limbs, but please do not put the branches curbside until we get closer to the event. Pile requirements and the collection schedule can be found online at LongmontColorado.gov/solidwaste.

  • The Longmont Waste Diversion Center accepts residential yard waste and branches year round. The WDC is free to residents. Please be sure to bring a current City of Longmont utility bill and identification to show that you are a City resident.

  • Non-residents and contractors must pay a fee to dispose of branches and yard wastes at the WDC.

Storm drainage

With the significant amount of snow this weekend, some city streets are experiencing storm drainage issues. If you see significant water backup on any city street, it is likely that the drain is clogged. Please report the issue to Public Works and Natural Resources via phone, web, or email: 

Road conditions update

Single pass plowing on residential streets was completed March 16. Arterial and main collector roads are dry with the exception of runoff from melting. Lower traveled streets are still snow packed with areas of slush. Crews will work on harder-to-reach snow piles and focus on ice mitigation prior to the morning rush. Caution should be used when traveling on overpass, bridges and intersections.
