Most City Facilities Closed on Memorial Day

Longmont city government observes the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 29. These facilities will be CLOSED: Civic Center, Service Center, Library, Museum, Senior Center, Youth Center, Development Services Center, St. Vrain Memorial Building, Roosevelt Activity Pool, Centennial Pool, and Waste Diversion Center. The Longmont Recreation Center will be open from 10 am to 4 pm, and Sunset Pool and Kanemoto Activity Pool will be open from 10 am to 5 pm. Trash, recycling and composting will be collected one day later than normal during the week.

Longmont Triathlon Weekend

Swim, bike and run! Longmont Recreation Services, along with Altitude Physical Therapy, presents the annual Longmont Triathlon Weekend for kids and adults June 3-4 at Centennial Pool, 1201 Alpine Street. Race information is available at LongmontColorado.gov/rec, RaceEntry.com, and Active.com, or you can pick up a registration form at any City of Longmont recreation facility. Registration ends at noon on Wednesday, May 31, and resumes in person June 2 during packet pickup. Volunteers are needed! Please call Marty at 303-774-4694 to volunteer.

Volunteer for Downtown Clean & Green

The Longmont Downtown Development Authority’s Clean & Green event was postponed due to weather and is now rescheduled for 8 to 11 am on Saturday, June 3. Volunteers are needed to help with landscaping and clean-up projects around the Downtown District. Come with a friend or form a team. Hot breakfast and t-shirts provided and you’ll have a chance to take home a new Ace Hardware wheelbarrow. For more information or to sign up online, visit DowntownLongmont.com/clean&green. Register for Library Summer Reading Program

Fight the summer learning slide and register your children for the Library’s Summer Reading Program. It offers fun ways for children, tweens, and teens to earn prizes for their summer reading and learning. Visit bit.ly/LibSRP or stop by the Children and Teen Information Desk at the Library at 409 4th Avenue for more information and to register.

Fun Fridays for Kids at Sandstone Ranch

Itty Bitty City at the Memorial Building is taking a break for summer, but kids will enjoy weekly themed crafts and activities from 9 am to noon every Friday, June 2 through July 28, at the Sandstone Ranch Visitors & Learning Center, 3001 Sandstone Drive. Parents must supervise their children. Please consider carpooling due to limited parking. Fun Fridays are free with a $2 per child suggested donation to cover the cost of craft supplies. The Visitors Center is closed June 30.

Music and Movies This Week at the Library

To kick off the summer Music & Magic concert series at the Longmont Public Library welcomes the Rocky Mountain Puppet Show with Meghan Casey from 10 to 10:45 am on Thursday, June 1, on the west patio at 409 4th Avenue. Come back on Friday, June 2, for the beginning of the Family Film Series with “The Secret Life of Pets.” Movies begin at 2 pm; free tickets are distributed beginning at 1:30. Children age 9 and younger must be accompanied by a dedicated caregiver age 16 or older. Registration is not required.

LPC Ready to Provide Holiday Help

City offices are closed for Memorial Day, but Longmont Power & Communications knows that electric and broadband needs don’t take the day off. Both systems are monitored 24 hours a day so that LPC crews can respond as quickly as possible. For outages and other urgent matters, please continue to call our outage line at 303-776-0011 or the main office at 303-651-8386. Emails and Facebook messages will not be seen until the offices re-open on Tuesday. Stay safe, and have a good holiday.
