LONGMONT, CO — August 13, 2025. A grassroots push to expand Longmont’s live music scene is gaining momentum with a punk show on Saturday, August 23 at Summit Tacos (237 Collyer Street). This not-for-profit event is part of a broader effort to bring more punk, indie, reggae, and alternative music options to the city — genres that have been noticeably missing from the local lineup. The August 23 show marks what organizers hope will be the start of more regular events to come.
“There’s a strong desire in our community for more variety in live music,” says one of the organizers, Michelle Webb. “People want to experience these genres close to home, and not have to drive all the way to Denver or Fort Collins. This show is a step toward expanding the music scene.”
The lineup features three powerful bands each rooted in the Front Range’s underground music culture. MONKEYPAW, a hardcore band from Longmont, brings raw energy from right here in town. Poison Politix, originally from Longmont and now based in Denver, makes a meaningful return. Their drummer, Tommy Guns, grew up right next door to the venue, spending much of his childhood in the neighborhood. And illFRAME is traveling down from Fort Collins — where a thriving punk and hardcore scene helped inspire the show in the first place.
“At one point I found myself contemplating moving to Fort Collins to be closer to more music options like this, and for their thriving scene,” Webb says. “But my husband and I love Longmont. I realized if something we want doesn’t exist here in our community, it’s up to us to make it happen.”
This effort is proudly grassroots, with support from several local creatives and businesses. Jilly Reitsma, owner of Jilly Billy Graphic & Web Design, was the first to get behind the vision, offering to create all of the promotional materials. Outlaw Production Collective, run by Katy Nielsen, is bringing her experience from producing shows and festivals all across the country to help ensure the event is smooth and a good experience for both bands and attendees. When Luna Rose Wolf, the organizer of the annual LunaFest music and arts festival, recently learned about the need for a sound tech, she stepped up without hesitation.
Owners Amy Quinn and Katy Nielsen of The Timi Collection, a vintage clothing story and community hub located in the Old Town Marketplace, helped pave the way for this earlier in the summer by transforming the space into a nightclub for their wildly popular Goth Night.
"Outlaw Production Collective’s mission is about creating events that foster and showcase the talents of our vibrant community," said Katy Nielsen, who is both the owner of Outlaw Production Collective and co-owner of The Timi Collection. "The Timi Collection is an extension of that vision, and supporting the upcoming punk show is part of our commitment to build more safe, creative spaces."
"We wanted the store to be more than a cool secondhand clothing shop. It's a place to hang out, share ideas and creativity, and build community," said Amy Quinn, also co-owner of The Timi Collection. "Once we opened, the local goth, punk, and alternative kids gravitated to the shop, and it became their safe Third Space. That inspired us to start hosting events where everyone could come together. That’s how Goth Night at OTM was born."
Summit Tacos, owned by Edward Perea, is generously hosting the event. Finding a venue wasn’t easy, but when Edward heard the idea, he was all in, offering his space without hesitation and showing the kind of community-minded spirit that makes events like this possible. Organizers are grateful to have a partner who shares the vision of bringing more music and culture to Longmont.
Driven by a shared love for live music and a belief in what’s possible, these organizers are laying the groundwork for a stronger, more vibrant music scene in Longmont.
Tickets for the show are $15, and proceeds go directly to paying the bands and covering event costs.
