Boulder County Commissioner Marta Loachamin has been appointed to the state’s workforce development council.

The Colorado Workforce Development Council is a public-private partnership that advises, oversees and integrates the work of the Colorado talent development network to meet the needs of employers and workers. In her new role, Loachamin will represent the perspective of the local government, according to a release from the county.

Loachamin was appointed alongside three other new appointees, who will represent the business community.

“I’m excited to use my professional experience in the housing, education and entrepreneur space to support the work of the Colorado Workforce Development Council,” Loachamin said. “As a member of the council, I’ll be able to elevate the fantastic work being undertaken by Boulder County and learn from local government and private sector partners from across the state.”

Loachamin brings experience from two years working as a Workforce Boulder County Development Board member. The county’s Workforce Development Board serves in an advisory capacity to Workforce Boulder County, the county office working to drive employment and education opportunities.

“Boulder County has not been represented in the past ten years on the state council, and I look forward to participating in these crucial conversations about supporting Colorado’s workforce while pursuing equitable outcomes for all,” Loachamin said.

The Colorado Workforce Development Council was formed under the federal Workforce Investment Act of 1998 and is responsible for improvement of the workforce system, oversight of Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act funds and ensuring a statewide strategic vision created from the bottom up through council members and local partners. The council acts on behalf of the governor on policy matters related to programs and activities funded by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.
