Work on BNSF crossing
road-construction

Main Street in downtown Longmont between First and Second Avenue is scheduled to be closed from Monday, June 14, through Friday, June 25, for repairs to the BNSF railroad crossing, according to a city of Longmont news release.

BNSF Railway will be performing the repairs, and traffic control will be managed by the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Work will include: replacing the railroad ballast, ties, rails and the concrete surface crossing parcels at the First Avenue and Colo. 287 crossing, the news release states. The work also includes removing and replacing the concrete pavement along each side of the crossing along with the adjacent curb, gutter and sidewalk sections. Access to local businesses will be maintained during the closure and the area will be clearly signed, the news release states.

  • Traffic traveling northbound on Main Street/Colo 287 will be detoured via Ken Pratt Boulevard to South Pratt Parkway and Martin Street. Traffic traveling northbound between Ken Pratt Boulevard and Boston Avenue will be detoured via Boston Avenue.
  • Traffic traveling southbound on Main Street/Colo 287 will be detoured via Third Avenue to South Pratt Parkway and Martin Street.
  • First Avenue will be reduced to one-way, eastbound only traffic between Main Street and Martin Street to facilitate construction on the First and Emery Street intersection improvement project.

The closure will also depend on weather conditions, the news release states.
