CU Boulder’s commencement ceremony for graduates of the university occurred today, and the institution reported that it “conferred a record 10,138 degrees earned by 9,934 graduates.” The ceremony took place at Folsom Field on the university’s campus.

The university said that more than 30,000 people were estimated to have attended the ceremony as spectators. The commencement speaker was three-time track Olympian, NCAA national champion, and CU Boulder alumna Emma Coburn, who spoke about how her dedication as a student athlete helped prepare her for success at the Olympics.

“Today isn’t just the end of a chapter, it’s the end of one race and the beginning of another,” Coburn said. “You’ve crossed the finish line, and now, you’re standing at the starting line of everything that comes next.”

Since the its first commencement in 1882, the University of Colorado Boulder

has awarded more than 320,000 degrees.

9,740 degrees were awarded during the spring commencement ceremony last spring, according to 9News.

Earlier this year, the university reported that a record percentage of first-year students who started classes at CU Boulder in fall 2024 chose to continue studying at the university into the 2025 spring semester. “Of the cohort of 7,359 students who began their first year at CU Boulder in fall 2024, 97 percent continued into spring 2025, an increase over the 96.4 percent retention rate recorded last spring for first-year students who started in fall 2023.”
