The family of Rita Gutierrez-Garcia and the Longmont Police Department are hosting a memorial bench dedication on Sunday, April 7, at 1 p.m.

All residents are invited to remember and honor Rita Gutierrez-Garcia on her birthday.

With support from the community, this bench was able to be erected in Thompson Park, 420 Bross St., Longmont, CO a year after Gutierrez-Garcia's disappearance.

According to a press relase from LPD, "because Rita’s remains have not been found, this memorial offers a place for those who loved her, to remember her and be close to her."

The park was chosen because Thompson Park is historically known to be peaceful with its trees offering a cool sanctuary on hot days and solitude during the colder months.

LPD would like the community to know that the investigation for Gutierrez-Garcia continues and a $10,000 reward is still being offered for information that leads to her discovery or that leads to the arrest of a suspect or suspects.

A tip line and email address have been established for anyone with information. Please call (303) 774-3700, for the police tip line or e-mail your tips to [email protected].

"At this point, we are still collecting information and evidence, and we continue to follow up on all leads. This is still a very active investigation, we continue to make significant progress, and we will not rest until we find Rita and this case is resolved. Anyone with relevant information requiring immediate police involvement and follow-up is asked to call the Longmont Emergency Communications Center at (303) 651-8501," states the LPD press release.
