BOULDER COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE

Boulder County, Colo. -On Friday, June 4, 2021 at approximately 2:43 p.m., the Boulder County Communications Center was notified of an overdue hiker. The 32-year-old hiker was going hiking in the area of the Hessie and Fourth of July trailhead and was possibly headed to Jasper Lake from there. Information gathered so far indicates the party went to the area on Wednesday and the hiker was to return from his overnight hike on Thursday. When the hiker failed to return home, family became concerned and notified the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the area and found a vehicle parked in the parking lot for the trailhead registered to the missing party. Members of the Boulder County Emergencies Services Unit along with members from the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, Front Range Rescue Dogs and the Boulder Emergency Squad responded and initiated a search for the party. The search party included approximately 20 searchers. As of 2300 hours the party had not been found and the search effort will continue again tomorrow morning.
The missing party was reportedly headed to Jasper Lake and the only clothing description provided is he was wearing a black hat and was using hiking poles. The party did not have any known medical issues or known medical problems. It is unknown if the party had any supplies or other equipment with him.
The search for the missing party will resume this morning and searchers will be assisted with aircraft providing reconnaissance and search efforts. Some of the normal parking for the Hessie and Fourth of July trailheads will be impacted by the search efforts.
At the time of this release the name of the party is being withheld until the sheriff’s office can verify the missing party’s family has been notified.
