“A welcoming space to highlight creative and alternative art”
The City of Fort Collins has always been a champion of arts and culture in Northern Colorado and is exemplified, once again, by sponsoring this new platform for artistic expression. Visit Fort Collins has engaged the storied Mishawaka Amphitheatre and its professional curators of live music to book and produce performances that you may not be able to see elsewhere. The public/private collaboration is providing the community with an opportunity to experience Fort Collins’ underground vibrant cultural assets. Dani Grant owner of Mishawaka shares, “Cost can be prohibitive for venues to take a chance on booking performances that are experimental or uncommon for the market. As much as we want to, venues that survive on ticket sales may not be able to host something people don’t know they love…yet” This showcase will allow those unique artists a platform to educate the community on the most exciting and new cutting-edge ideas coming from our arts scene that challenge the norms. These experimental forms often reflect and respond to urban tensions, social changes, and emerging technologies in ways that mainstream culture hasn't yet caught up to. A thriving experimental arts community signals that a city values innovation and intellectual freedom, making it more attractive to universities, tech companies, and other knowledge-based industries.
Cynthia Eichler, who greenlit the program, has a motive. "The artists involved in FoCo Unexpected bring a unique blend of entertainment options for those looking to expand their experiences in Fort Collins. We are looking forward to hosting this series at the Fort Collins Welcome Center."
What you can expect from this Avant-garde series is an array of various art forms including: experimental noise bands, spoken word, world music, LGBTQ+ artists, performance art and more. Please come out and support these brave creators at the downtown Visit Fort Collins stage on Mountain Ave.
