Local Minimum Wage Focus Group: May 9
You are invited to share your thoughts about local minimum wage at 5 pm on Thursday, May 9 at the Longmont Civic Center, 350 Kimbark St. The cities of Longmont, Boulder, Lafayette, Louisville and the town of Erie are collectively exploring a potential increase in the local minimum wage in their respective communities above the Colorado state minimum wage. Local governments would like to hear directly from the community to better understand how people are currently being paid, opinions about raising the minimum wage, and any positive and negative impacts that may come to individuals and the community. Longmont Celebrates Cinco de Mayo
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo from 11 am-6 pm on Saturday, May 4 at Roosevelt Community Park, 700 Longs Peak Ave. This event celebrates culture and honors the health of the Longmont community. Each year thousands of people come together to enjoy the food, shopping, live entertainment, car show, break dance competition and free family activities. Learn more at the Longmont Cinco de Mayo website. In support of zero waste, please bring a refillable water bottle. Water stations will be provided.
Drinking Water Quality Report available
The 2023 Annual Drinking Water Quality Report is available online at the Longmont Drinking Water webpage. You will find information about Longmont’s drinking water and results of the most recent tests that were done on the drinking water. Printed copies are available to view at the Longmont Library and Utility Billing, located in the Civic Center. If you previously signed up to request a printed copy, you have received it in the mail. Strider Balance Bike Race
Gear up your little Jedi for an epic, out-of-this-world adventure at the Star Wars-themed Strider Rough Rider bike race at 9:30 am on Saturday, May 4. Let the Force guide them through a thrilling balance bike race at Willow Farm Park, exclusively for kids aged 2-5. Bring your child’s balance bike and helmet (required). $20 per resident rider, no refunds. Limited spaces are available. Register on the Rec webpage (Community Events) or call 303-774-4700.
Children, Youth & Families celebrates 40 years
Mark your calendars! Longmont’s Children, Youth & Families division as they celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Youth Center on Friday, June 21. The fun begins at 2:45 pm at the Youth Center, 1050 Lashley St., with food, music, youth activities, tours and community. At 5 pm, guests will be invited to walk across the park to Lashley Street Station to view the CommUNITY in Focus: Youth Photography Exhibit. Film at Longmont Museum: "Asteroid City"
On Thursday night, May 2, at 7 pm at the Longmont Museum, join us for “Asteroid City” (2023, PG-13). Wes Anderson’s newest film takes place in a fictional desert town in the American West circa 1955. Just 1 inch of water can cause $25,000 of damage to your home. Did you know flood insurance is required for properties with mortgages in FEMA mapped 100-year floodplains, but is available for any property, regardless of whether it is located in a mapped floodplain? Do NOT wait for flood damage to occur! There is a 30-day waiting period before flood insurance takes effect. Most standard homeowners’ insurance policies do not cover flood damage. Longmont Library's children area closed May 6-17
The Longmont Library's Children & Teen Services space will be undergoing a renovation to better serve the community! The Children & Teen Services area will be closed to the public from May 6-17. he Children's area is getting new shelving, replacing shelves that are more than 30 years old. This will create a safer, more welcoming space while also making our materials more accessible for all our patrons. All children and teen programs will also be canceled during this time-frame. If you have questions during the closure, the Children & Teen Services librarians will be tabling outside of the area or call them at 303-651-8470.
