Coffee with Council this Saturday

Longmont City Council will host an in-person Coffee with Council from 9-10 am on Saturday, October 22, at the Longmont Museum, 400 Quail Road. Halloween Parade & Trick-or-Treat Street

Dress up in your Halloween costume, march down Main Street; then, visit Downtown participating merchants for Trick-or-Treat Street this Saturday, Oct. 29. Kids and adults of all ages can be a part of Longmont’s annual free costume foot parade, no registration required. Parade line-up begins at 9:45 am (10 am start) at Roosevelt Park, 700 Longs Peak Ave. Strollers or wagons are recommended for tiny feet (no motorized vehicles). Leashed dogs are welcome. Vote for your favorite Thing in a Jar!

Head to the Longmont Library’s lobby to vote for your favorite Thing in a Jar! Community members of all ages crafted “preserved” specimen jars featuring creepy, crawling creatures in the Library’s newest contest. Winners will be announced on Monday, Oct. 31, so get your vote in soon!

Friends of the Longmont Library Book Sale

The Friends of the Longmont Library Fall Book Sale will be held in the Library’s lobby from Thursday, Oct. 27, through Sunday, Oct. 30. Stop by to browse titles of adult and teen fiction and non-fiction, children’s books, vintage books, personal interests and DIY books; biographies and autobiographies; religion; and travel books. Days of the sale include: 4-8 pm Thursday, Oct. 27 (Friends Members Only Night): 9 am-5 pm Friday, Oct. 28; 9 am-5 pm Saturday, Oct. 29 (TEACHERS: Present your school ID and Fill a Bag for $5!); and 1-3:30 pm Sunday, Oct. 30 (Fill a Bag for $5).

Noche de Museo: Celebrating Day of the Dead

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a time to celebrate our deceased loved ones and keep their memories alive. The Longmont Museum’s Stewart Auditorium comes alive at 7 pm on Saturday, Oct. 29, with musicians, singers and dancers of all ages for an evening in celebration of Día de los Muertos. Mariachi groups and other performers from local schools join up with seasoned professionals to sing and dance to traditional Mexican song. Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra: Nosferatu

Celebrate the 100th anniversary of F.W. Murnau’s silent film classic, “Nosferatu” with live musical accompaniment by the Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra at the Longmont Museum at 7 pm on Thursday, Oct. 27. This unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, features not Dracula but Count Orlok, a nightmarish, spidery creature of bulbous head and taloned claws – perhaps the most genuinely disturbing incarnation of vampirism yet envisioned. Day of the Dead Bilingual Storytime

Head to the Longmont Library Meeting Rooms starting at 10 am on Tuesday, Nov. 1, for a special Day of the Dead-themed Bilingual Storytime! We’ll sing, read stories, and participants will make a craft. This event is for all ages. No registration required.

November ballot information

This November, City Council will be asking Longmont voters to approve the issuance of $20 million in storm drainage bonds to finance the next phase of the Resilient St. Vrain Project (RSVP). The RSVP is a multi-year project to fully restore the St. Vrain Greenway and improve the St. Vrain Creek channel to protect people, property and infrastructure from future flood risks. Additionally, voters will be asked to consider two changes to the Charter and one City Council At-Large position. One charter amendment would provide operational clarity and streamlining, and the other would allow for simultaneous elections. Sister Cities seeks student ambassadors

Applications are available for students interested in participating in the Longmont Sister Cities student exchange program. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in 8th-11th grade in a public, private or charter school within the St. Vrain Valley School District. Student ambassadors have the opportunity to travel to one of Longmont’s sister cities in Japan, Mexico or the Wind River Reservation, Wyo., with a small group of the finest youth in the St. Vrain Valley School area.
