Events & Happenings
Longmont Library's children area closed May 6-17
The Longmont Library's Children & Teen Services space will be undergoing a renovation to better serve the community! The Children & Teen Services area will be closed to the public from May 6-17. he Children's area is getting new shelving, replacing shelves that are more than 30 years old. This will create a safer, more welcoming space while also making our materials more accessible for all our patrons. All children and teen programs will also be canceled during this time-frame. If you have questions during the closure, the Children & Teen Services librarians will be tabling outside of the area or call them at 303-651-8470.
Purchase Rec Passes before fee increase
Effective May 15, 2024, admittance fees to Longmont Recreation Facilities will increase. Take advantage of current pricing through May 14 to purchase 20-visit passes, 30-day passes, quarterly passes, and annual paid-up-front passes. Passes may be purchased in advance for summer outdoor pool months and for 2024-25 Ice Pavilion season. Learn more at the Rec Fees webpage or call 303-774-4700.
Crime-Free Housing training
The next Longmont Crime Free Housing Program training has been scheduled for 9 am-5 pm on Wednesday, May 22 at the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Ave. The Crime Free Housing Program is a free class designed to help rental property owners and managers keep illegal activity off property. The purpose is to educate the owners and their residents to improve the quality of life in these neighborhoods by reducing crime. To register, visit the Crime-Free Housing webpage.
Protect waterways when washing containers
Is it time to clean out your compost bin? Safeguard our waterways by washing compost containers indoors using sinks. The nutrients, bacteria from food waste and chemicals from soap can degrade water quality and endanger aquatic life. If washing outdoors, ensure wash water doesn't enter roads or storm drains. Dispose of it in indoor sink drains or on landscaped areas, particularly if using biodegradable or phosphate-free soap. Learn more at the Keep It Clean Partnership website.
Friends of the Longmont Library Book Sale
Meet us in the Longmont Library's lobby to browse books, DVDs, vintage finds and more during the Friends of the Longmont Library Book Sale. Proceeds from the sale will help fund Library programs, resources and services. The book sale will run from 3:30-8 pm on Wednesday, May 8 (Friends members only), from 9 am-8 pm on Thursday, May 9, and from 9 am-5 pm on both Friday and Saturday, May 10-11. Air Quality Awareness Week
May 6-10 is Air Quality Awareness Week! This week, we encourage all Longmont residents to “know your air” by signing up for Ozone Action Alerts. Simply text “BetterAirCO” to 21000 to be notified when air quality is forecasted to be unhealthy.

Visit the Recreation Services job information booth from 4-6 pm on Thursday, May 9 in the lobby of the Recreation Center at 310 Quail Road. Learn about the variety of openings, have your questions answered, and apply for your summer job! Local Minimum Wage Focus Group: May 9
You are invited to share your thoughts about local minimum wage at 5 pm on Thursday, May 9 at the Longmont Civic Center, 350 Kimbark St. The cities of Longmont, Boulder, Lafayette, Louisville and the town of Erie are collectively exploring a potential increase in the local minimum wage in their respective communities above the Colorado state minimum wage. Local governments would like to hear directly from the community to better understand how people are currently being paid, opinions about raising the minimum wage, and any positive and negative impacts that may come to individuals and the community. Children, Youth & Families celebrates 40 years
Mark your calendars! Longmont’s Children, Youth & Families division as they celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Youth Center on Friday, June 21. The fun begins at 2:45 pm at the Youth Center, 1050 Lashley St., with food, music, youth activities, tours and community. At 5 pm, guests will be invited to walk across the park to Lashley Street Station to view the CommUNITY in Focus: Youth Photography Exhibit.
