Price Park tank replacement project continues
The City of Longmont has completed the temporary widening of Longs Peak Avenue to accommodate construction equipment for the Price Park Tank Replacement Project. Starting Sept. 28, there will be a new traffic pattern on Longs Peak Avenue with the eastbound and westbound lanes running next to each other on the south side of Longs Peak Avenue between Sunset Street and the entrance to Sunset Golf Course. Demolition of the existing 7-million-gallon reservoir is scheduled to begin on Oct. 3. Contractors will remove the roof and walls of the structure to accommodate the new above-ground 8-million-gallon water tank. The existing water tower, currently used for communications equipment, will remain in place and not be impacted by this project. Day of the Dead Family Celebration
The annual Día de los Muertos / Day of the Dead Family Celebration will open the season in downtown Longmont at Fourth Avenue and Main Street from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8. This free street festival will include music and dance performances, art and craft activities, cultural education, delicious food, downtown business altars, and the Firehouse Art Center Gigantes Procession. Free exhibition of altars for the dead at the Longmont Museum. Park downtown or at the Longmont Museum and take the free shuttle between locations. The Great American Ghost Trip
In 2021, local author and paranormal investigator Richard Estep traveled 4,000 miles in 10 nights, staying only at haunted locations — and wrote a book along the way. He called it “The Great American Ghost Trip.” Join Estep and the Longmont Librarians from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20, in the City Council Chambers, Civic Center, 350 Kimbark St., as he talks about his book and the adventures he had. Thing in a Jar Contest for all ages
The Longmont Library invites the patrons of all ages to delve into their spooky side to create a “preserved” specimen jar this fall! Jars, along with completed entry forms (available at bit.ly/LibPrograms), can be delivered to the second floor of the Library until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 23. The jars will be displayed in the Library lobby from Oct. 24-30, for the public to vote for their favorite creation. On Monday, Oct. 31, winners will be announced for Best Adult Jar (ages 14 and older), Best Tween Jar (ages 9-13), Best Kid Jar (age 8 and younger) and People’s Choice.
Talking About Race series at the Library
Join in a community conversation around race, facilitated by Annie Caplan of Living Room Conversations, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12. In small groups of four to six people, participants will explore their personal experiences around the given topic: Status and Privilege (Oct. 12); and Race and Ethnicity (Nov. 9).
