Spend “An Evening with Dr. Temple Grandin”

Dr. Temple Grandin is one of the first prominent individuals on the autism spectrum to publicly share insights from her personal experience. Come hear her remarkable challenges and achievements in this special Library program from 7 to 8 pm on Tuesday, September 12, at the Stewart Auditorium, 400 Quail Road. Tickets are free, but advance registration is required and it’s likely to sell out. Register online at bit.ly/LibPrograms. No email address or internet service? Zagster is Taking a Break for the Weekend

The Zagster bike-share program is getting an upgrade! The bike lock boxes will be simplified, but the program must shut down for the work to be completed. You can start riding again on Monday, August 7.

Recreation Facility Closures

The City’s recreation facilities close in late summer for maintenance on systems and equipment. The St. Vrain Memorial Building will be closed August 7-12, and Roosevelt and Kanemoto activity pools close for the season on August 13. For more information, visit LongmontColorado.gov/rec.

Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds Storytime

The Library will present a fun new storytime for preschoolers that integrates movement and reading. Beginning on Friday, August 11, these storytimes will be held from 11 to 11:30 am every second and fourth Friday of the month. No registration required; just drop in at 409 4th Avenue. Shred Your Private Documents for Free

Take boxed or bagged papers to be shredded to the Waste Diversion Center at 140 Martin Street between 9 am and 2 pm on Saturday, August 12. This is for residential documents only; no business documents accepted. Please also take ID and a copy of your most recent Longmont utility bill. New! Downtown Block Party

The first Downtown Block Party, presented by Xfinity, will encourage you to have fun exploring the whole Downtown District from 1 to 6 pm on Saturday, August 26. Highlights include Longmont United Hospital’s second annual Downtown Amazing Race, a community scavenger hunt, a Downtown fashion and hair showcase, sidewalk sales, dance performances, an artisan market, roaming entertainers, theater performances, and a health and wellness treatment area, in addition to entertainment, specials and promotions at Downtown businesses. The City of Longmont’s Fall 2017 Recreation & Golf Services’ activities guide was mailed to Longmont homes this week and is available online.
