The Boulder Police Department arrested Alyssa F. Barger for felony menacing after the department received reports that a woman was waving around a knife and allegedly threatening to kill a teacher and students in the 1700 block of Broadway at about 11 a.m. on Monday. The department was able to identify the suspect and arrested her on Monday afternoon. She was officially booked into the Boulder County Jail at 7:34 p.m. Monday and was released with a personal recognizance bond on Tuesday.
“This type of criminal behavior will not be tolerated in our community and I'm proud of the good police work done by Officers Morris, Baddley, Harris and Hadley today to find and identify the suspect responsible for scaring these teachers and children,” Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn said.
Witnesses said the suspect was within 10 feet of the children and teacher when she threatened to kill them while waving the knife around. The teacher and students were not injured during the encounter. The police said there may be other victims and the investigation is ongoing.
