LongmontLeader received the following letter from the Firehouse Art Center introducing its new exhibition in the main gallery June 10 through July 26:

Unusual Suspects by Helios Lucida
The paintings in this exhibition were born out of Lucida's need to push portraiture beyond the figurative illustration of a subject and towards an abstract interpretation of the person being portrayed.
By distorting the features of the subject Lucida creates the possibility for a deeper visual experience than one created by viewing traditional portraiture.
The people Lucida chooses to paint are mostly selected from images of various Colorado drag performers he has been invited to photograph throughout a several year period, two paintings are self portraits, and one was envisioned.
Helios Lucida currently resides in Colorado, finding the location prime as a base camp for missions outside the perimeter and into the frontiers where expansive planes of geographical reality exist.
