NEWS RELEASE
LONGMONT PUBLIC LIBRARY
*************************
This year’s Spring Break at the Longmont Library will be a little quieter and entirely virtual but not without fun for kids and tweens. Longmont’s Children’s and Teens’ librarians have created two book group packages to keep kids stuck at home over Spring Break occupied and having fun.
The first book group, designed for children in second and third grades, will focus on Mia Mayhem is a Superhero! by Kara West and is scheduled for Thursday, March 25 from noon to 1 pm via Webex.
The first in a new chapter book series, Mia Mayhem is a Superhero! introduces Mia Macarooney, an ordinary eight-year-old who finds out she has an extraordinary super-secret.
This book group is limited to 12 participants and each participant gets a copy of Mia Mayhem to keep. Accompanying the book is a make-your-own-cape craft kit. The group will meet virtually via Webex and discuss the book, then make their crafts together.
The second book group, featuring Snapdragon by Kat Leyha, is aimed at middle schoolers and scheduled for Friday, March 26, from 4 to 5 pm via Webex. Snapdragon is a magical realist graphic novel about a young girl who befriends her town’s witch and discovers the strange magic within herself.
This group is limited to 10 participants, and each participant will receive their own copy of Snapdragon along with a craft kit to make felt creature keychains. The group will meet virtually to talk about the book and make their key chains together.
Registration for both book groups opens Monday, March 1 at 10 am. Instructions for joining the Webex meetings will sent in the registration confirmation emails.
Once registered, group members can pick up their books and craft kits during the week of Spring Break by visiting the Library during current business hours and calling the Children and Teens Desk at 303-651-8477. A library staff member will bring their materials out to the Curbside Delivery table.
