A Public Utilities Commission administrative law judge will conduct a remote public comment hearing on Thursday, July 16, on a proposal by Xcel Energy to increase natural gas base rates.

The public comment hearing will begin at 4 p.m. and last until concluded, but no later than 6 p.m. Individuals who wish to provide public comments during the hearing may do so either by telephone or computer. Detailed instructions on how to participate by phone or computer can be found in Section B of the decision scheduling the public comment hearing.

Xcel’s initial proposal, filed in January, sought to recover an additional $126.7 million annually to pay for improvements to its natural gas distribution system. However, on July 2, Xcel filed a notice stating that an unopposed comprehensive settlement in principle was reached among the parties in the proceeding. The proposed settlement is expected to be filed with the PUC by July 10.

Individuals who wish to review the proposed settlement prior to the public comment hearing can access it through the PUC’s E-Filings system once it is filed.

Members of the public also may submit written comments about the proposal by using the PUC’s on-line comment form at https://puc.colorado.gov/puccomments under proceeding 20AL-0049G.

The PUC administrative law judge has scheduled a hearing on the proposed settlement for Aug. 13-14, with a decision on the rate proposal to be issued by Nov. 12.
