Join the Longmont Museum and the Longmont Multicultural Action Committee for a panel discussion on the history of race and social justice in Longmont. Moderated by KGNU, the panel of local civic leaders and activists will share their perspectives on Longmont’s history of race relations and ongoing efforts to create a more just, equitable, and inclusive community for the many diverse people who call Longmont home. Longmont Community Memorial Project
We recognize that the pandemic has affected people’s ability to memorialize lost loved ones. Senior Services is organizing a community altar for the annual Día de los Muertos event this fall at the Longmont Museum. To include a remembrance on the Longmont community altar, please fill out a submission form and submit your photograph, poetry, art, or other writings for inclusion by Sept. 23. Learn How to navigate election media
Independent journalist and University of Colorado data journalism instructor Sandra Fish will help you cut through the political spin during the election season in “Being an Informed Voter in 2020,” an online program offered by the Longmont Public Library from 7 to 8:30 pm on Sept. 24. Receive an eco-home improvement
The city of Longmont’s new Sustainable Opportunities, Lifestyle and Leadership program, or SOLL,is accepting applications from Longmont households to receive free home eco-upgrades and sustainable lifestyle tips and resources. Trained local volunteers are leading this effort. Home visits are starting in the Loomiller and Kiteley neighborhoods. Complete an application to receive your upgrade or to be added to the neighborhood waitlist. Boulder County Public Health guidelines will be followed for household visits. Take a free ride around town
Sit back, relax, and let someone else do the driving. Ride the bus to help reduce pollution and improve air quality. Extra cleaning, masks and social distancing are helping keep buses a safe way to get around town.
The 2020 chemical drop-off day scheduled for Saturday has been canceled. Residents can take items at no charge to the Boulder County Hazardous Materials Management Facility, 1901 63rd Street in Boulder. Schedule your appointment at BoCo.org/HMMFappointment. Annual citywide “Clean-up, Green-up”
Businesses, civic groups, schools, neighborhoods, families and individuals are invited to help spruce up Longmont. Volunteers can pick a park, greenway, street, alley or open space to clean up, or an area of need can be assigned. The Kickoff for the month-long campaign is from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 19, at Sunset Campus, 7 S. Sunset St. Register at JoinUs.LongmontColorado.gov/Calendar. Sunset Pool to remain open through Sept. 20 by reservation only
Sunset pool has extended its outdoor swimming season through Sept. 20. As with the previous months this summer, guests will be asked to make a reservation before their visit and to follow all of the current Colorado COVID visitors guidelines.
