NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF LONGMONT
*************************
Most city facilities closed on Monday
Longmont city government observes the Labor Day holiday on Monday. Most city facilities will be closed. The Longmont Recreation Center will be open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Sunset Pool will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Both locations require reservations; visit LongmontColorado.gov/rec for details. Trash, recycling and composting will be collected one day later than normal throughout the week.

Annual citywide “Clean-up, Green-up”
Businesses, civic groups, schools, neighborhoods, families and individuals are invited to help spruce up Longmont. Volunteers can pick a park, greenway, street, alley or open space to clean up, or an area of need can be assigned. The kickoff for the month-long campaign is from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sept. 19 at Sunset Campus, 7 S. Sunset St. Register at JoinUs.LongmontColorado.gov/Calendar. If you can’t participate on kickoff day, you can help “Clean-up, Green-up” through Oct. 10. For more information, visit bit.ly/cleanup-greenup, call 303-651-8955 or email [email protected].

Kids’ bike program accepting donations
The volunteers at the Kids’ Holiday Bike program, sponsored by Bicycle Longmont, are accepting new and used children’s bicycles with wheel sizes ranging from 12 to 24 inches. Functional bikes are preferred (flat tires are OK). Dedicated volunteers will ready the bikes for distribution to new young owners during the holiday season. You can donate bicycles until Dec. 4 at any Longmont fire station. Find fire station locations at bit.ly/LongmontFire.

Water meter maintenance program
The city of Longmont conducts an annual program to replace water meters in homes on a scheduled cycle. This ensures measuring accuracy and is at no cost to the homeowner. When an inside meter is due for replacement, the owner/tenant will receive a letter with directions for scheduling an appointment. The city’s contractor — Utility Sales and Service — will then complete the work. For meters in a pit outside a home, a letter will inform the owner/tenant that a city technician will be on the property. Owners/tenants do not need to be home for work done in outside pits; however, technicians will knock on the door to announce who they are and why they’re working on the property. For more information, visit LongmontColorado.gov/water or call 303-651-8416.

Hazardous waste drop-off canceled
The 2020 chemical drop-off day scheduled for Sept. 12 has been canceled. Residents can take items at no charge to the Boulder County Hazardous Materials Management Facility, 1901 63rd St. in Boulder. Schedule your appointment at BoCo.org/HMMFappointment. Businesses can schedule appointments at BoCo.org/HMMFbizappt. For more options and information about disposing of various types of waste, visit LongmontColorado.gov/WasteServices or call 303-651-8416.
