Tim Waters speaks to City Manager Harold Dominguez prior to a council meeting in 2019

To the Editor:

Dr. Tim Waters is a candidate for Mayor in Longmont’s November election. I’ve known Tim for 35 years. I was a member of the school board that hired Tim to serve as superintendent of the Greely/Evans School District #6.

To say our board was pleased with our selection of Tim to lead our school district would be an understatement. We hired Tim and challenged him to raise the academic achievement of our students while reducing a growing dropout rate, especially among our population of Latinx students. He exceeded our expectations.

Tim’s leadership of our diverse community toward goals that no one other than the board members thought possible was unprecedented. The record of improved student and community outcomes was remarkable. The legacy of his leadership and commitment to equity is still celebrated today in Greeley through the Greeley Dream Team, which Tim founded with other community leaders in 1987. Beneficiaries of the Dream Team’s work are largely first generation collegebound Latinx students.

In a time when every city longs for Mayoral leadership that transcends divisions and unites residents to solve wicked problems, Longmont voters have the opportunity to elect just such a candidate. Elect Tim Waters as your next Mayor.

Pres Montoya
