Written by Macie May: The Longmont Humane Society is participating in a nationwide Clear the Shelters™ Event on Saturday, August 18, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Longmont Humane Society.

"Longmont Humane Society will join hundreds of other shelters nationwide and waive all adoption fees with the goal of finding new, loving, forever homes for as many animals as possible," states a press release from the Longmont Humane Society.

Clear the Shelters is an annual event in partnership with NBC and Telemundo. According to the press release, "since 2015, Clear the Shelters™ has resulted in more than 150,000 pet adoptions."

"The campaign also helps to raise awareness about the importance of pet adoption and the overcrowding issues that local animal shelters typically experience in the summer months."

The Longmont Humane Society is one of over 600 animal shelters participating in this event across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

Aging Services Foundation of Boulder County Seeks Board Members

Written by Macie May: The Aging Services Foundation of Boulder County is seeking one to two members to join their board of directors. According to a newsletter announcement, board members will "help steward and drive a better, stronger, and brighter future for all older adults in our community."

"The Aging Services Foundation of Boulder County (ASF) was established nearly twenty years ago to provide alternative funding in order to build and grow programs of the Area Agency on Aging," states the announcement.

Candidate Lot Drawing for 2018 General Election

The following is a press release from Boulder County Elections and is published by the Longmont Observer as a public service. 

A lot drawing for two contests will be held to determine the order of candidate names on the ballot for the General Election on November 6, 2018.

When:              Thursday, August 9, 12:30 p.m.

Where:             Boulder County Clerk & Recorder’s Office

1750 33rd St, Houston Room, Boulder, CO

Ballot positions will be drawn for the Boulder County Commissioner – District 3 and Boulder County Sheriff contests. The process will take less than five minutes to complete. The lot drawing is open to the press and public. Candidate attendance is welcome, but not required.
