Pedestrian Bridge Removal Requires Trail Closure between SouthPratt Parkway & Parklane Avenue

Written by Macie May: The pedestrian bridge, crossing St. Vrain Creek east of the South Pratt Parkway Bridge, is being removed next week.

The section of South Pratt Parkway east to Parklane Avenue closes on Wednesday, July 25 to all users. The City of Longmont suggests the alternative route of Boston Avenue east to Main St., south to Deleware Avenue and west to South Pratt Parkway for pedestrians and bicyclists.

According to a press release from the City of Longmont, "a temporary walkway will be installed later this month on the recently completed west side of the South Pratt Parkway Bridge to help pedestrians and bicyclists cross the creek."

The improvements to the South Pratt Parkway Bridge will include facilities for both pedestrians and cyclists along both sides, widening the bridge to accommodate larger traffic flows and "to safely pass 100-year flood flows of the St. Vrain Creek," states the press release.

Construction on the bridge is expected to continue through September.

For more information about the bridge visit bit.ly/pratt-bridge, email [email protected], or call 303-219-7474.

COGCC hearing on 8 North Drilling and Spacing Units scheduled for July 31, 2018

The following is a press release from Boulder County and is published by the Longmont Observer as a public service.

8 North LLC filed two applications with the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) to establish “drilling and spacing units” (DSU) in the northeastern and southeastern parts of Boulder County. 8 North informed Boulder County that it intends to place the 32 wells for the northern unit in Weld County and the 20 wells for the southern unit within the Town of Erie. Boulder County has protested the 8 North applications. These DSU applications will be heard by the COGCC on July 31, 2018, as part of the COGCC hearing that will take place July 30 – August 1 in Denver.

If you would like to comment on these applications, COGCC informed Boulder County of the following:

  • There will be a 90 minute public comment period on both July 30 and July 31. COGCC will accept general public comment on any subject on Monday, July 30 and public comment on the 8 North DSU applications on Tuesday, July 31. COGCC anticipates public comment will begin each day at 9 a.m.
  • Sign-up for public comment will open on Wednesday, July 25 on COGCC’s website and will close on Friday, July 27 either at noon or when a sign-in sheet is deemed "full." People will be limited to sign up for public comment on one day.
  • If there are people who show up in Denver to speak but did not sign up online, they can sign up at the hearing. However, depending on the number of people who sign up, the COGCC Chair may limit comment time to two (2) minutes each and/or ask remaining people to come back at the end of the hearing.
  • COGCC anticipates a number of people will wish to speak but will not have an opportunity due to time constraints. Consequently, they encourage citizens to provide written comments. You may email comments directly to the COGCC Hearings Manager, Julie Prine (email: [email protected]) to include in the COGCC Commissioners’ portfolio prior to the hearing.
