Open House scheduled to discuss Eldorado Canyon to Walker Ranch Connection Feasibility Study on August 28

The following is a press release from Boulder County and is published by the Longmont Observer as a public service.

Boulder County Parks & Open Space, the City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife are jointly hosting an open house to discuss options for providing a natural surface multi-use trail between Walker Ranch Open Space and Eldorado Canyon State Park.

The primary objectives of the Eldorado-Walker connection are:

  • Improve access to the Walker Ranch Loop trail.
  • Expand the range of trail-based recreation opportunities.
  • Reasonably accommodate bicycles while maintaining the currently allowed activities of hiking, running, and horseback riding.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend the open house to learn about the Eldorado to Walker Connection Feasibility Study including the conceptual trail alignments and provide feedback on the proposed evaluation criteria. Staff will answer questions about the work completed to date on developing a range of trail options for further study, the proposed plan for evaluating the trail routes, the timeline and public input opportunities for completing the feasibility study.

What: Eldorado Canyon to Walker Ranch Connection
                Feasibility Study Open House
     When: Tuesday, Aug. 28, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Where: Meadows Branch Library, 4800 Baseline Road, Boulder

There will be no formal staff presentation during the open house; the public is welcome to drop by anytime. Laptops will be available for members of the public to submit comments on site at the open house, or they can be submitted via the online form from Tuesday, Aug. 28, through Tuesday, Sept. 11, to be considered by the project team for inclusion into the evaluation.

Support for a feasibility study to evaluate a multi-use trail that includes bicyclists is identified in Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan, the Boulder County Walker Ranch Management Plan and the City of Boulder Visitor Master Plan, and Eldorado Mountain/Doudy Draw and West Trail Study Area (TSA) plans. The connection also is identified as one of “the Colorado 16” (16 in 2016) priority trails in the 2016-2026 Colorado State Trails Plan and Department of Natural Resources Colorado the Beautiful program.
