St. Vrain Valley School District finalized plans to hold in-person graduation ceremonies in May for high school seniors and up to four members of their households.

Superintendent Don Haddad sent a letter on Thursday to families announcing scheduled dates for ceremonies to which graduating seniors and family members living in the students’ household can attend maintaining safe social distancing.

From the twelve planned ceremonies, only one will be held at an indoor auditorium, while the rest will take place in school fields, outdoors, according to the letter.

Last year, SVVSD’s seniors graduated in outdoor ceremonies held simultaneously at high school fields throughout the district and limited seating to up to two guests who lived in the graduate’s household.

“We have worked with Boulder County Public Health on graduation event planning and following current safety guidelines for public events,” said Kerri McDermid, chief communications and global impact officer, adding the health department has been very clear about guests being members of the students' households only.

The move to the yellow level on the state COVID-19 dial allows outdoor seated events and entertainment venues to host at 50% capacity and welcome up to 175 people.

Seating will be assigned for each graduate and their guests to remain in clusters. Additional registration and safety protocols will be shared in upcoming communication to families by school principals, McDermid said.

Each ceremony will be streamed live for friends and family to participate virtually, according to the letter.

“We are very proud of our seniors and look forward to recognizing their outstanding achievements and celebrating this important step in the next phase of their life,” stated Haddad in the letter.
