The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for portions of east central and northeast Colorado, including Boulder and Broomfield counties until Friday at midnight.

NWS predicts a round of strong storms to form in the area in the afternoon to evening hours. Heavy rains and a potential for flash flooding should be expected. These rains combined with the 1-3 inches that fell on Wednesday could cause flooding in some areas.

Area residents should be advised that excessive runoff could cause flooding in rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
