Alfred Daniel Gieck, 92, of Matheson, CO passed away peacefully on February 7 surrounded by his family at Penrose-St. Francis Hospital in Colorado Springs.

Alfred was born November 14, 1928, in Pueblo, CO to Daniel Gieck and Bertha Dole Gieck. When Alfred was 18 years old, he started carpentry with Ed Allison and met the love of his life JoAnn Allison. They married in May of 1949 and in January of 1950, Alfred accepted Jesus as his Savior. Alfred knew he wanted to build his home on a firm foundation so Alfred and JoAnn raised their children in a spiritual home. In 1967, he started Gieck Construction with his three sons. While he enjoyed hunting and fishing, his passion was building and remodeling houses. He was the perfect example of “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” ― Mark Twain.

The Gieck Construction crew could build a house from framing to finishing with skills they learned from Alfred. The little town of Matheson has many houses remodeled by Alfred and sons. When he looked at a decrepit house, he would say, “Let’s do it up right.” That’s the only way he knew to do something “the right way.” Alfred didn’t really look forward to a day off until they built the family cabin in Breckinridge. With all the kids and grandkids, he didn’t get much peace and quiet, but enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and eating delicious meals through all the commotion. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Donald; his sister Edith Fiscus; brothers-in-law Louis Watson, Jim Nawyn, and Verlan Fiscus; and his oldest son Bobby. Many loved ones will miss Alfred: his wife JoAnn; sisters Edna Mae Watson, Violet Nawyn, and Linda Pruner; children Randy (Jeanne), Michael, and Holly; four grandchildren Jillian (Nate), Keri (Matt), Jason (Meaghan), and Tyler; and five great grandchildren Dylan, Izzy, Brayden, Ashton, Lucas, plus one more on the way.
