Bernice Hughes was born on January 11, 1934, on a farm in Akron, IA, and passed away on May 8, 2024, at 90 years old.
She grew up in Iowa as the youngest of 13 children, Annabelle, Myrtle, Ollie, Freeman, Darrell, Raymond, Dwayne, Charles, Harley, Arden, Eldon, and Harold.
She is preceded in death by her husband Jim O. Hughes, who she married on December 16, 1950, and her son, Michael James Hughes. She is survived by her son James (Jimmy) David, her 2 grandchildren, David (DJ) James and Anthony (Tony) Joseph, and 3 great[1]grandchildren, Haley Marie Hughes, Kashton Michael Hughes, and Connor James Hughes. Bernice also dearly loved all her nieces and nephews, and they loved her back.
Bernice was the vice president of Hughes Steel Erection Service in Sioux City, Iowa, and was a dedicated member of Eastern Star and Weight Watchers.
She will be missed dearly by her family and the community that she has touched. There will be two Celebration of Life ceremonies, one in Colorado and one in Iowa:
