Betty (Walker) Mathis, age 89, of Loveland, Colorado, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 25, 2020.  She passed away at her daughter’s home in Loveland.

Betty was born in Red Wing, Minnesota, on September 9, 1931, to Carl and Ethel Walker and was the 3rd daughter of 4 children.

She graduated from Rochester High School and went to college at Marion College (now called Indiana Wesleyan University) in Marion, Indiana.

Following graduation, Betty taught high school English and Spanish in Indiana and Minnesota.  She moved to Arizona in 1957 to teach at Phoenix Christian High School.

She continued teaching for over 40 years.  Besides Phoenix Christian High School, she also taught at several schools in Glendale, Arizona.  She taught 2nd and 3rd grades as well as special education K-8.

In 1958, she met F. Austin Mathis Jr. They were married for 38 years until his death in 1996. Together, they had 2 daughters: Coe and Pam.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Coe Van Donselaar (Tim) and Pam Simpson; her grandchildren, Daniel (Jeongwon), Sara (Marchauncy), Katy, Charles, Jamar and Omar; and 6 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Austin, her parents Carl and Ethel, and her sisters Dorothy and Donna.  She is survived by her brother Tom.

Betty loved spending time with her family and church family, camping in the RV, tea parties, crafting, and just talking. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and entertaining. She was a great prayer warrior, who prayed daily for her family and friends.
