February 14, 1924 - June 4, 2022

Betty Jane Sheneman was born on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1924, near Arapahoe, Nebraska, and she peacefully passed away on June 4, 2022, at Alta Vita Assisted Living in Longmont, CO at the age of 98. Betty was the youngest of 6 children born to Jess and Mabel Dunlap. Wayne, Glen, Gladys, Opal, Lucy, and Betty were all born in the living room of their farmhouse on the family homestead.

Betty loved sharing about her younger years, growing up attending a small one room schoolhouse, living through The Great Depression, The Dust Bowl, a seven-year drought and WWII. She was the last of our family story tellers of her generation and her stories helped us understand why that generation is often referred to as The Greatest Generation.

On June 26, 1943, Betty married the love of her life, Leland “Hap” Earl Sheneman while he was home on leave from the army where he served during WWII. Together they had 3 children, Roger Lee, Gerald (Jerry) Dean, and Judy Ann. The family made their home in Nebraska until they moved to Loveland, Colorado in 1965.

During her lifetime Betty worked at various jobs but her longest and most favored job was at Hewlett Packard where she retired after 21 years. She was active in various churches during her lifetime, and her faith and family were important to her. Betty loved hearing about her children’s and grandchildren’s daily activities. Betty also enjoyed gardening, traveling, and camping and fishing. She was very social and loved to dance, even at 96 she was still attending several dances a week where she made many friends. She also developed many friendships and was lovingly known as Aunt Betty when she moved to Alta Vita Assisted Living in 2020.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, siblings, and her daughter-in-law Patty Sheneman.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her 3 children: Roger Sheneman and his wife Carol, of Fort Collins, Colorado, Jerry Sheneman of Moscow, Idaho, Judy and her husband Ernie of Longmont, Colorado, her 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, and friends.

There will be a Celebration of Life on July 16th at The Chilson Senior Center at 700 East 4th Street, in Loveland Co. Seating available starting at 1:00 with the memorial ceremony starting promptly at 1:30.
