December 13, 1933 - February 22, 2023

Beverly Jean Mayer was born December 13, 1933 in the town of Elizabeth, Colorado to Perry and Mabel Evans.  She was the youngest of four children, her siblings being Lee, Verna Mae and Bob, who have all preceded her to heaven.  Bev grew up on a farm  and her fond memories included having only a wood stove in the kitchen and dressing by its heat on a cold winter’s day; the way her mother played the upright piano for dances with friends at their home; and her dad saving her from the river when it had grown too wide from the heavy rains.  She graduated from Elizabeth High School in a class of four!

Through a friend attending Rockmont College, Bev met a humorous, hard-working young lad and on July 5, 1953 she married Stanley Edwin Mayer in Elizabeth, Colorado.  They first settled in Denver but, in 1956, moved to Carbondale where Stan taught elementary school and Bev worked for the principal.  Bev had special memories of Carbondale, the students and the families there and loved to visit the town in later years.

Having moved back to the Denver area, in 1959 Stan and Bev adopted Terry and in 1960 they purchased their first home on Dover in Arvada.  In 1963, they moved to Northglenn and found a loving family in Village Baptist Church.  In 1967 Stan and Bev adopted Marjie to complete their family.  Bev was a caring and loving homemaker and enjoyed reading, playing the piano, singing solos and duets with Stan and the church choir, teaching the pioneer girls, doing a little ironing on the side for extra money, and eventually worked part-time in the church office with her special friend Thelma.  Bev took pride in their home and always kept it spic and span even though Stan, Terry and Marjie might wrestle through the living room, breaking a lamp or couch at any time.

In 1979 Stan was taken to heaven and as much as it broke her heart, it never wavered Bev’s faith.  She was a rock to Terry and Marjie and to watch her share her faith with other widows in the years to come was a true inspiration.  She went to work full time, took on single parenting without a complaint, and continued the family traditions including memories and fun facts about Stan throughout the years to come.

As years went by and Bev became a mother-in-law, she welcomed Mischelle and Bill with open arms and an open heart.  After becoming a grandmother, Bev shared many fun play days, crafts, teas, trips to the park, overnight parties, sports events and school programs that continually made being with Grandma fun for her four grandchildren, Pamela, Andrew, Bailey and Taylor.  As the family grew and grandchildren married, Bev welcomed with love and excitement Gabe, Noah and Lisa.  She was always interested in their lives and how God was working in and through their lives.  And you would think she would be happy enough but then…Great Grandchildren!  Paige, Mav, Eli and Luke filled her refrigerator door with pictures and her filled her heart even more.  Along with her immediate family, Bev cherished all her nieces, nephews and cousins and always wanted to hear about their lives and their families.

Bev loved and cherished all her Crossroads and Village friends whether in Bible study, friends’ birthday lunches, Sunday school, missions committee or the funeral ministry.  She also relished it when the gals in the neighborhood would get together and play cards, dominoes or go for a lunch or coffee.

She was kind and sweet to her last day, insisting with a smile “she was fine.”  We are happy to know that she is now eternally “fine” with her Lord and hope what sticks with us today is that she always trusted Him no matter life’s circumstances and she would pray we all do the same.
