Carl Phillip Rygiewicz passed away on January 23, 2022 in Boulder Colorado at the age of 84. Carl was born June 11, 1937 to Sigmund Rygiewicz & Irene Korpalski. He grew up in Chicago Illinois and graduated from Tildon Tech High School. In 1959 he graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering and went on to attend Marquette University to earn his Master’s Degree in 1967. He met his wife Patricia Knauer in Oak Creek, Wisconsin while working for AC Spark Plug. They moved to Boulder in 1968 where he worked at Dow Chemical Rocky Flats, Ball Aerospace, Storage Tech, AT&T Bell Labs, Lucent, and retired from Avaya in 2001.

Carl was an avid hiker, doing many fourteeners, and was a trip leader for the Colorado Mountain Club. He loved the outdoors. He was a runner, and also liked to mountain bike, ski, and snowshoe. He enjoyed fishing and had many “fish” stories to tell. Collecting trains was his hobby and he was a Lionel train lover all his life. Being thorough and detail oriented he designed and built a magnificent train layout that has been published in magazines. He also had a great appreciation for classical music and reading.

Survivors include his wife Patricia, sons John of Louisville, Michael and his wife Christie of Broomfield and four grandchildren, Sam, Allie, Megan and Brynn. A private family celebration of life will be held in the mountains he loved at a later date. In lieu of flowers, take a moment and be kind to one another. Time flies by quickly. Make some time to give away some hugs.
