October 31, 1944 - January 14, 2023

Charles Edmund Hall (Eddie) passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 14, 2023, at the age of 78. Eddie was happily married to his wife Jan for over 57 years.  Eddie and Jan have three children, Mindy, Lorna, and Tim.

Eddie was born on October 31, 1944, in Brush, CO. He and his three siblings were raised on a farm south of town. Eddie graduated from Brush High School in 1962 and then attended Colorado State University for a year, pausing his education to come home and take care of his father and the family farm. Eddie met Jan in 1962 and the two were married in Fort Morgan on December 11, 1965. He was then drafted into the United States Army and served one tour in Vietnam as part of the 104th Division of the Air Cavalry during the Tet Offensive. Eddie fought valiantly for his country and his families’ freedom. While he was in Vietnam, his first daughter, Mindy, was born.

Two years after Eddie got home from Vietnam, his second daughter, Lorna, was born.  In 1973 the family moved from Brush to Idalia and started farming and custom hay harvesting as Edgar Hall &Sons. His son, Tim, was born in 1974, and Eddie’s parents moved to Idalia in 1975.

Eddie and his father built their shop in 1976, and in 1983 he and Jan built a new house right next to it and have called it their home ever since. Eddie was a dedicated father and farmer. Part of the families’ hay harvesting adventures were summers spent in Walden, CO swathing, baling, and stacking over 4,000 acres of mountain grass hay. It was a family circus from sunrise to sunset, but he loved every bit of the chaos a crew of up to 20 people (mostly kids) can create. His kids learned valuable lessons from working hard and the rewards of contributing to the family business.  Eddie even coaxed his grandkids out of bed and into the field in the early morning hours so they too could experience farm life.

Eddie’s world revolved around his children and his family; he and Jan seldom missed a school or sporting event. Eddie dedicated his life to supporting his family and took great pride in making sure all three of his kids were able to graduate college without any debt.

After his children graduated from college, the girls pursued careers on the front range, while Tim came home to become a partner in the family business, renaming it Hall’s Hay and Equipment. For many years Tim and Eddie worked side by side harvesting hay and inventing new hay equipment. Eddie was quite the inventor and anyone who knew him well, knew that he was an exceptionally intelligent man.

As he grew older, his daily presence in the shop decreased, but he would consult Tim over coffee every morning and with phone calls in the middle of the night to see “How’s it baling?”

Eddie is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Arla Hall, his sister, Sharon Curran, and his brother Larry Hall.  He is survived by his brother, Dale Hall.

Eddie is survived by his wife Jan, his daughter Mindy Nassar of Westminster, his daughter Lorna Maheu (David) of New Hampshire, and his son Tim Hall (Kim) of Idalia. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Hunter and Rachel Nassar, Nicole and Justin Maheu, and Tyler and Trent Hall.

Our family will cherish this amazing man and the time we were blessed to have with him. We take solace in the fact that he is with the Lord and will always be in our hearts. Eddie Hall was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and we will miss him greatly.

A memorial service will be held at the St. John’s Church in Idalia on Saturday January 21, 2023, at 11am. The service will be followed by a luncheon and celebration of Eddie’s life in his shop on the Hall property.

Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home, 427 Adams St, Wray, CO, has care of Eddie’s arrangements.
