Cynthia Anne Dowd was born on October 15, 1949 in Albany, New York to proud parents William and Caroline Feeney. Cynthia, who went by Cindy, grew up in Albany, New York with her parents and siblings Cheryl, Mary and Michael.
After graduating from Mercy High School in Albany, Cynthia attended Becker College in Worcester, Massachusetts. It was also during this time that she met and fell in love with her husband of 50 years, Jeffrey Dowd.
Jeffrey and Cynthia were married on November 4, 1972 in the Chapel of the Sisters of Mercy, in Albany, New York. After starting out married life in Branford, Connecticut they eventually settled in Cheshire, Connecticut where they had their three children, Kathryn, Jacqueline and Christopher Dowd. The family moved to Midlothian, Virginia in 1992, where Cynthia and Jeffrey made their home for the next 25 years. After Jeff’s retirement, they moved out to Colorado to be closer to family in 2014. In 2018, Jeff and Cindy bought a condo in Naples, Florida to fulfill their dreams of living near the water.
Cynthia was an avid gardener and volunteered countless hours with many organizations throughout her life. Some of her most treasured volunteer duties included the READ center in Virginia, and the Junior League in Connecticut, Virginia and Colorado.
Cynthia had an appreciation for beauty in all things and loved gardening, decorating and hosting parties and celebrations. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Cynthia is survived by her three children and their families; daughter Kathryn, son-in-law Christopher Geer, three grandchildren Ethan, Cody and Elise; daughter Jaqueline and son-in-law Steven Peterworth; and son Christopher Dowd; and her three siblings Mary Rupolo, Cheryl Rao, and Michael Feeney. Cynthia was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jeffrey Dowd and her parents William and Caroline Feeney.
