Delwin ‘Del” Lee Peterson, 81, of Golden, Co., died July 16th at Collier Hospice. Services will be held at 12:00 PM on July 31st at Rundus Funeral Home, Broomfield, CO.

Delwin was born in Aberdeen, SD on April 14, 1940 to Delmer and Leone Peterson and was the oldest of 5 children. The family lived in Northville, SD, until 1959 when they moved to Miller, SD.  Delwin graduated from Northville Northwestern High School in 1958.   He attended college one year at Dakota Wesleyan University, Mitchell, SD, before transferring to Northern State University, Aberdeen, SD where he graduated in 1962, with a BS Degree in Business Administration.  He entered the Army in July, 1962, and was stationed at the Special Warfare Center in Ft. Bragg, NC.  He later received a Master in Business Administration degree from Minnesota State University – Mankato.

Delwin and Deanna Dee Fraser were married on December 22, 1963 in Miller, SD.  They raised a family of 4 children and lived in North Carolina, North Dakota and Minnesota before moving to Colorado in 1978.  Delwin had a career in software development and Information Systems Management beginning in 1964.  He worked at several major companies, including Green Giant, Storage Technology, Information Handling Services and US West/Qwest until his retirement in December, 2003.

Sports were always an important part of Delwin’s life.  In high school he played basketball, baseball, football and track.  In his first year of college at Dakota Wesleyan University  he played basketball and football.  Before moving to Colorado, he followed the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings.  He then became a Colorado Rockies, Denver Broncos and Denver Nuggets fan, but still kept up with the two Minnesota teams.  He also enjoyed playing golf and working out.

Delwin was involved in church and community activities, serving on various church boards. He made two mission trips to the Katrina hurricane area to help with disaster relief.   He was active in the Jaycees and Optimist Club.  During retirement, he volunteered at the National Western Stock Show, Operation Christmas Child and was a Docent at the Bradford Washburn Mountaineering Museum.

He and Deanna, the love of his life and best friend, enjoyed watching grandchildren’s activities and sporting events.  They also spent some Januarys in Arizona and traveled to see family and friends.

Delwin is survived by his wife Deanna, children: Jeffrey (Sherrie), Broomfield, CO; Ann (Joe) Landers, Broomfield, CO; Amy (Ryan) Goard, McKeeney, TX; Erin (Kip) Braun, Grand Prairie, TX; and 9 grandchildren.  He is also survived by his brothers Arden, Minnesota, Kermit, Colorado; sisters Janice Hancock, Texas, Jill (William) Duffy, South Dakota.  In place of flowers, please make donation to the American Heart Association.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother.
