SEPTEMBER 21, 1970 – OCTOBER 31, 2023

Loving father, uncle, brother, son, and dear friend, Derek “Durk” Franklin, 53, passed away too soon on Tuesday, October 31st, 2023.

Derek was born on September 21, 1970, to Sharon Mulvaney and Jon Franklin in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he grew up before moving to Fort Collins, Colorado. He became a Master Electrician and was a skilled handyman who loved a good challenge in his work. He had a love for fixing old cars, riding motorcycles, listening to good music, and playing the guitar. He had a one-of-a-kind, quick-witted sense of humor, and his choice of t-shirts often reflected his love for sarcasm. He also had a genuine talent for cooking, which he loved to do for all his friends and family.

More than anything, Derek loved his family. His supportive, generous, and caring spirit will continue to live on through them, especially his two daughters, Natalie and Raylee. The beam on his face in their presence left no secret the pride he felt as a father. Beyond his daughters, Derek will live on in the hearts of many friends and family he leaves behind, including his sister Dara Miller and her husband Richard, brother Darren Franklin and his wife, Lisa, his mother, Sharon Mulvaney, and his beloved furry companion, Pheobe. He is welcomed on the other side by his father, Jon Franklin, his step-father, Matt Mulvaney, and by his late furry companions, Max, Jake, and Benny.

A Celebration of Derek’s Life will be held on Saturday, November 11th, 2023 at the Rigden Farm Community Barn 2902 Rigden Pkwy Fort Collins, CO from 1-4pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to suicide awareness programs. To honor Derek’s memory, help a friend in need and tell those you care about how much you love them. Treasured memories of Derek and words of condolence for his family are welcome at www.resthavencolorado.com.
